ELEMENTARY

Our Elementary classes curriculum which is a rich blend of British and Nigerian curricular delivered by passionate teachers are aimed at broadening the children’s horizons to enable them lead fulfilling lives, with the high aspirations.

The ethos of excellence permeates our whole curriculum, inspiring the pupils to be the very best version of themselves.

The core subjects: Literacy, Numeracy and Science are purely planned on the British curriculum while the Humanities: History, R.E, Social Studies are blends of British and Nigerian Curricula. Children also explore the language of their community (Yoruba) and a Modern Foreign language: French. All these give them local and global knowledge within a broad and balanced curriculum.

Learning to read is at the heart of our curriculum. It begins with the systematic teaching of Phonics followed by introducing the children to quality texts.  As they become more secure with decoding skills and build fluency, we progress to teaching comprehension skill.

Through questions, we also teach children to look at skills such as, retelling, predicting and inferring author’s intentions. They are able to articulate their own views and justify them, using evidence from the text.

Carefully structured mathematics teaching based on mastery techniques is also embedded across the curriculum. We use high quality concrete and pictorial representations to help children explore and demonstrate mathematical ideas, enriching their learning experience and deepening their understanding.  This concrete – pictorial- abstract approach helps pupils to truly understand what they have learnt and consolidate their learning experience.

To help develop their reasoning and problem-solving skills, we teach number relationships, conceptual understanding, efficient methods and accuracy. With these, children gain mastery in basic number facts, mental and written calculation methods.

Generally, our curriculum is enriched by a range of outdoor and indoor learning experiences, including field trips and we regularly review our curriculum in accordance with content approved by local and international education regulatory bodies.
